Recently at the Smashtime party at the Body English nightclub located inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas the members of the Three 6 Mafia were seen living it up. The club was packed to capacity and the group kept the energy level up! They even took pictures with people in the crowd!

After performing at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas this past weekend, Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel and former Foo Fighters and Germs guitarist Pat Smear were spotted inside the rock lounge Wasted Space. They were celebrating the Foo Fighters playing two sold-out shows at the Joint concert hall. Also seen at the Hard Rock was actor and comedian Drew Carey, who was spotted having dinner with a friend inside the Mr. Lucky's restaurant.

This is a response to the Living In Las Vegas Podcast Episode 59: Tips on Finding a Job in Las Vegas: From a Senior Recruiter’s Perspective

Per people moving here and not knowing yet where they want (or more importantly NEED to live):

Checking out all the new home communities is great, but new communities also have their downsides. Small lots, regulations against lawns, a location on the edge of town that is going to make getting around town a chore.

Simply go to LV Blvd and the southern Beltway at 5 PM on any weekday and look at the gridlock that stretches from the airport tunnel to Rhodes Ranch (and beyond) and then ask yourself if you really want to live way out in the Southwest. You are better off living in Mountains Edge (south of Blue Diamond, 3-4 miles west of I-15) when it comes to traffic.

I strongly suggest renting for 6 months or even a year. The market isn't going to rebound back anytime soon. (2009 will bring a new wave of forclosures). That gives you time to really dig in and check out the entire Las Vegas area.

For example, this location is less than 10 minutes from The Strip, the airport, UNLV and major business centers:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=89119&ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ll=36.110403,-115.127985&spn=0.011979,0.019312&z=16&layer=c&cbll=36.105987,-115.127614&panoid=FjWOZ-gOvVXY_7PGntSHgw&cbp=1,9.299435380856949,,0,8.18836281965238

But if you just drove down Tropicana or Flamingo, you'd never know it is there.

Here's an even better one:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=89119&ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ll=36.156796,-115.140774&spn=0.011972,0.019312&z=16&layer=c&cbll=36.15509,-115.14503&panoid=3Ye3X4uyDLJUePb_2-rSxA&cbp=1,188.28121492894581,,0,-3.5582370422248104

Looks like a beautiful, older neighborhood with the mature landscaping and could be in just about any city. Guess what: It is just west of LV Blvd (the part north of Stratosphere) and south of Charleston. Once again, you'd never know unless you were doing your homework and really getting to know the valley before buying.

I could go on, but I don't want to give out too many secrets. I'll be buying a home in the next 6-12 months myself (sold the previous one at the top of the bubble... long time residents could see it coming).

I won't be buying new construction. I'll be buying in one of these great little pockets with mature landscaping, lawns, nice sized lots (with plenty of elbow room between me and the neighbors). I'll take the money I save by buying a previously owned home and go choose my own new appliances, countertops, tile and any other upgrades (if needed).

Now... don't get me wrong: This isn't for everybody. You may not want to live close to the action or need to be close to the airport, strip, or main business centers. You may rather get the warranty that comes with a new home, and the ability to pick your upgrades and simply have them in place when they hand you the key.

If first moving to town, you may want the comfort of knowing that everybody in your neighborhood is probably also new and not have to play a guessing game with which areas of town are the better (or not so good) areas. You may more want the feel of living in Southern California or Phoenix or Albuquerque and not so much want to live in the shadow of the Stratosphere Tower.

But don't write off established neighborhoods. Especially since Google Street View is available for just about every street in Las Vegas.

One of the defining moments in the grand history of Las Vegas entertainment was when the first Cirque du Soleil show, Mystere, opened at the Treasure Island in 1993. It was a huge sucess, paving the way for other Cirque shows to open here. One of the most dynamic and unique shows is Cirque du Soleil - Ka which can be seen at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

As the Las Vegas Shows Reviews blog recently noted:

Unique to other astounding Cirque Du Soleil productions, Ka delivers theatre-like story telling with 360 degree rotating stages and moving platforms along with vivid interactive video projections adding to the backdrop of this magical world. In one of my favorite scenes, the Spearmen and Archers are chasing the Twin Sister, the Nursemaid and the Valets up a steep cliff. Creating a truly spectacular live fight scene, dangerous flips and stunts are performed by fearless artists in conjunction with computer-generated special effects and interactive video projections. The tilted stage (up to 110 degrees) rotates beneath them during the chase as they dodge arrows and fight, climb and slip down this perilous cliff.

Another fierce battle scene produces a “Matrix” phenomenon, where the audience peers down upon the warriors from a top angle view as they (in slow motion?!) jump-kick into and fly backwards away from one another on a battleground of blue molten with the fluid rippling at their every step. How is this possible in a live performance you might ask? Fortunately for you, this is just one of those things you have to see for yourself!

As with other Cirque du Soleil shows the performers are all masters of acrobatics and gymnastics. They are from all over the world and are some of the most talented entertainers you'll ever see! One of the hallmarks of Cirque shows is the abundance of visual stimulation and KA certainly lives up to that reputation! Some of the routines simply must be seen to believe! It's a once in a lifetime experience that you'll not soon forget.

It's worth mentioning also that the accompanying music is worth the price of admission. Keeping in the Cirque tradition, the soundtrack features rich orchestral textures that perfectly match the dynamics of the performance and really adds depth to the spectactular experience. Come see KA and experience the world of Cirque du Soleil, Las Vegas style!
